What is Keoma?

Keoma is a Swiss web app that creates audio stories for children, produced like a small radio play: a narrator, a voice for each character, music and sound effects. Here, in plain questions and answers, is what it does, who it is for, what it costs and what it doesn’t do.

The name

Is Keoma the film?

No. Keoma (keoma.app) is an audio-story app for children, made in Switzerland. It has nothing to do with Keoma, the 1976 Italian western starring Franco Nero, or with other businesses that share the name. To avoid confusion we often write “Keoma: Bedtime Audio Stories”.

Who makes Keoma?

Keoma is built by Kevin Jamolli, a software engineer based in Pully, Switzerland, who started it to make bedtime stories for his nephews. It is a small, independent project. Contact: contact@keoma.app.

What Keoma does

How does it work?

A parent chooses the ingredients: a hero from Keoma’s characters, a world, a magical object, a mood (calm, funny, adventurous…) and, if they like, a little lesson such as sharing or courage. Keoma writes an original story for the child’s age, an AI safety review reads the script, and the story is recorded with a narrator, a voice for each character, music and sound effects. Listening can start as soon as the first chapter is ready, and the story stays in the family library.

How is it different from other story apps?

The format. Most AI story apps have one voice read a text. A Keoma story is produced like a radio play, with a cast of voices, a music bed and sound effects. Each story is also written directly in its language rather than translated.

Is it made with AI?

Yes, and we say so. Scripts are written by AI language models and voiced with AI text-to-speech (ElevenLabs). Every script gets an AI safety review before it is recorded, and published audio files are marked as AI-generated in their metadata.

Can we listen before paying?

Yes. Real Keoma stories can be played without an account on the sample page (keoma.app/en/demo) and on the home page.

Who it is for, languages and devices

What ages is it for?

Keoma is designed for children aged about 2 to 10, the bedtime-story years. Pace, sentence length and the number of characters follow the age you give (stories for 2 and 3 year olds follow stricter, gentler rules: no peril, no loud sounds), and stories can grow with a child up to age 12.

Which languages?

English and French. Each story is written directly in its language, with names and narration to match. A child profile can listen in one language or both, which suits bilingual families and parents who want their children to hear French (or English) at bedtime.

Which devices?

Keoma is a web app: it runs in the browser on a phone, tablet or computer, and can be added to the home screen. There is no App Store or Google Play app yet, and no dedicated child device like Lunii or Yoto. The player has a sleep timer that fades the story out and a mode that darkens the screen while the story plays.

Pricing

How much does it cost?

Keoma has monthly plans in euros, counted in story minutes: a 5-minute story uses 5 minutes, and listening again is always included. Conteur (Storyteller): €6.90 a month, 20 story minutes a month, each up to 10 minutes, enough for about 4 stories of 5 minutes. Enchanteur (Enchanter): €12.90 a month, 50 story minutes a month, each up to 15 minutes, enough for about 10 stories of 5 minutes. Famille Magique (Magic Family): €24.90 a month, 120 story minutes a month, each up to 30 minutes, enough for about 24 stories of 5 minutes. There’s no cap on the number of stories: you make as many as your minutes allow. Minutes refill at each renewal and don’t carry over, and you can add extra minutes at any time. The sample stories can be played without an account. Full details are at keoma.app/en/pricing.

Can I cancel?

Yes, at any time, from Me › Plan & story minutes in the app. There are no ads in Keoma: the plans pay for the service.

Safety and privacy

Is it suitable for children?

Every script is reviewed by AI with the child’s age and the chosen mood in mind, and a story that needs a grown-up’s look stays out of kids mode. Parents choose what goes into each story and can listen first. No automatic review is perfect, which is why the parent stays in charge.

What is kids mode?

A locked space where a child only sees the stories you have allowed for them. No ads, no chat, no microphone, no links out. Leaving it needs the parent PIN (or a grown-up sum if no PIN is set).

Can a family member narrate?

Family voices (a relative as the narrator) are coming soon; the feature is switched off for now. Children never record anything, and kids mode has no microphone.

What happens to our data?

We never sell personal data, and there are no ads or tracking cookies. The child’s age is used to write the story; their first name stays in the app (profiles, kids mode) and is never written or spoken in a story, because stories are replayed by brothers and sisters; the providers that process data (AI, voices, hosting, payments) are listed in the privacy policy. You can delete a child’s profile or the whole account at any time.

What Keoma doesn’t do (yet)

What are Keoma’s limits?

Keoma has no child device: you need a phone, tablet or computer, whereas Lunii, Yoto and Merlin are real screen-free players. There is no native app yet, and on some phones audio in a web app can stop when the screen locks, which is what the player’s screen-off mode is for. Stories are generated for each family; it is not a library of publishers’ audiobooks. And it is a young service, with few public reviews so far.
